As cam sites go Joystick.TV is one of the newest ones, and has tried to cater for a need that isn’t already covered. If I had to boil it down to one line it would be “Twitch with sex”.

Twitch with sex

If you know what Twitch is then this makes perfect sense, but if not, then perhaps you may not find this site that attractive as you are not a hardcore online gamer. However, do read on a bit to see if the community here will change your mind. Liking gaming is not essential to use the site, but if you are part of that community you are going to like it more.

Lets start at the beginning, why does this site exist at all?

Joystick.TV seems to be another attempt to create a gamer-friendly live cam site after Plexstorm folded. I’m not going to go into the drama there, I didn’t really see what was going on, but suffice it to say that a gamer-cam site failed, but many people wanted one to succeed.

Enter Joystick.TV.

First impressions

When you arrive at the site, just click the button here, you’ll find a roughly-typical cam girl site.

There are chat rooms, girls are in the rooms and you can watch video and see and participate in text chat.

What’s different from a regular cam site is:

  • Male and female rooms are side by side with no distinction
  • A good half of the broadcasters are serious gamers
  • In a few rooms streamers are actively gaming in split screen
  • There are very few “studio” sets
  • There is a real community between streamers where they will be in each others room and chat and tip

The layout is clean but very basic. You can feel it was created by programmer / geeks and not by graphic designers. You won’t find any dark red backgrounds here, just shades of gray and blue.

Signing up

Even more than regular cam sites you really need to be a member and signed it to get much out of the site.

To start, you’ll need to create an account and verify your email address. Or, alternatively sign in using Twitter / x or with Google / Gmail. In either of those cases it is actually being logged in with those, not just grabbing your email address and signing you up with those.

Notice the “Interest in Streaming?” checkbox? They do want to get more streamers because that is the one thing they are short of.

Girls available at Joystick.TV

And while the community and the games are great the number of models broadcasting here is really low, and that’s the main downside of the site. It is common to find maybe 20 or 30 rooms online, but a lot of those are males.

If you want to see girls then you have to hunt, you can’t even use a tag because while there are tags for “gay” or “femboy” there isn’t one specifically for girls, at least not that I can see.

For myself I’ve used the tag “female” and “camgirl” but this seems like a waste of tags, each room only gets 5.

Video chat rooms

Inside the chat room it is pretty typical as far as online cam rooms go. Again it is a little less “designed” but still functional, and there are some callbacks to online gaming rooms. You’ll find text commands for tipping, and “emotes.”

Many rooms require you to at least be a follower before you can view them, which is just one click to follow – but means you can’t be a guest.

Inside a chat room it is common to see a multi-screen layout, typically done with OBS etc, with a headshot, a game view and maybe a crotch view. Combined with a lovense animation and menu this can lead to a very busy screen.

Sound and settings controls, a choice of WebRTC or HSL (If you don’t know, leave it alone), quality, pop out, full screen and more make it a comprehensive video chat experience.

What’s missing? There are no gifts, presents or anything other than just tip. There is no slider to adjust the split between video and text chat. though you can collapse the left bar menu to make a little room.

On mobile the video and text layout is typical with video at the top but with bio at the bottom and no easy access to chat in this mode that I can see. It works well in both portrait and basically full mobile screen in landscape.

Community engagement?

Yes there really is a community here, at least among some of the real game enthusiasts. There are also a variety of sub-niches like furry fandom, guys into cock self-torture while gaming, anal plugs for men using morph suits and more.

Not a lot of each, but a few and if you are a fan of one then I am sure you are happy to let others live and let live, or just chat with each other.

At the same time, although I found people in my room to be helpful when I had issues with the site, they were not that talkative while I was just doing my regular office-cam. Maybe it would work better if I was gaming while broadcasting rather than doing the accounting or writing blog posts for this site while the cam points at my ass or tits!

Purchasing tokens

This is mostly a tipping site you need to have tokens to show appreciation. There are a lot of options here:

And this is just regular, you can also be a “Super Supporter” meaning you pay full price for your tokens, at exactly 10c per token, which means that the receiver (that’s me) gets the maximum value of basically 55% or 5 and a half cents per token.

I also get 80% of what you pay if you subscribe to my feed, but don’t, because I don’t post much. Other people may, though I’ve not seen much, this isn’t really a content site.

Whatever kind of tokens you buy and however you buy them the payent is going to be via credit card, or via PayPal.

Watch out for your privacy though because Joystick.TV is not as discreet as other cam sites.

Your credit card will be securely billed one time without any recurring charges or obligations. This charge will appear on your credit card as joysticktv.

My emphasis, I would rather my card didn’t mention the site name. And there are no options for safer things like gift cards, paysafecards or even crypto. Given that the team behind joystick.tv is obviously quite nerdy and techie I’m surprised by the lack of crypto but there you go.

Unique Features of Joystick.TV

It is common at JS.TV to find other broadcasters coming into your room and chatting, so this makes life more interesting particularly when things are quiet.

Joystick.TV offers a unique blend of gaming and adult entertainment, setting itself apart in the from the other sites I normally look at “cam sites.”

PM with models

When I go into a room I typically get an automated DM, but trying to reply leads me to a “subscribe” option.

To message <the model’s name>, you must subscribe, be their moderator, or be a verified streamer they follow.

I have to pay something like $4.99 (it varies by model) to subscribe so that I can:

  • Watch/Chat in sub-only stream
  • Send Private Messages
  • Watch VODs of Past Streams
  • Unlock all Post content
  • Subscriber badge, custom emotes, special chat commands, and more
  • “Plus all future subscriber features!”

Ok but that depends on a model posting content, and not all do. Therefore sending PM, or DM they get confused about the naming I think, is what that subscription really gets me.

This is just the ones on the first page, I did a quick count up. I want to investigate some of these, I don’t know what they all mean. Not hard to find I guess but still intriguing to see the variety of interests and preferences represented. It seems Joystick.TV caters to a wide range of niches, from gaming enthusiasts to specific fetishes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Viewers conclusion

Should you try it out? Yes, it is cheap and fun and a bit different.

No it isn’t going to change the world fo you, not unless you are a hardcore gamer or into one of the sub niches that flourish here, but still a fun place.

Check it out, and come by my room if I’m online and say hi and that you read about it here!

Model: DM, followers, subscriptions, VOD

It is all pretty much the same as you would expect, the features all work and I can message other members, I can ask for and list my followers or subscribers.

Model: Tip menus, wheels and goals

As a model you get to set up tip menus, or tip wheel and there are some nice controls. Like inside the tip menus you can mark items as “one time only”, to prevent someone tipping multiple times for something that can be done only once in a show like “take top off”. And you can specify a “cool down” period on an item so it can’t be used too often.

The user interface is clumsy though; for example when I click “edit” against a tip menu item as I want to change the value the field for editing appears not in the list, next to the edit button, but at the top of the list in a separate edit area.

Minor things, and easy to get used to, but I can see it taking time to find them all.

Model: Tags

Tags are possible and there doesn’t seem to be an official list so you can choose the tags that make sense to you. They have to be approved but it seems to be quite instant if it is a regular one like “asian” or “tits”.

I tried “nipples”, and “trichophilia” but they went into approval queue and weren’t effective immediately.

The lack of any widely used tag that just means female is a drawback here. You can only have 5 tags as well, I added a bunch more and didn’t realize until I refreshed the screen that only 5 were active.

Model: Geoblocking

There is proper geoblocking by country or region of the US. That means I can block France, or Germany, and I can block California or Texas. But there is no way to just block Paris and not the rest of France, or just block Scotland and not the rest of the United Kingdom.

Model: Payout

They like to talk about 80% payouts, but that is the exception rather than the rule. If you post content and people subscribe for that then you get 80%, but for tips and stuff you get around 5 and a half cents.

That is more than CB or SC but it isn’t as much as you might have hoped for, and you have to select either a flat rate, or a variable rate that depends on how much the viewer paid for their tokens.

Nobody really likes that so the flat rate of 5.5c per token is what you are liable to end up with. This is the same as ePlay which is also a gamer targetted site.

Is it worth joining for models?

Maybe, maybe not. You have to have quite a hardcore gaming or niche interest to make this worthwhile. It is a fun place to hang out, but not a big earner I don’t think.

If you just itch to play games and get paid while you do it then consider signing up for Joystick.TV

Or, to be realistic, try Stripchat and use the gamer tag there for a similar effect. For best, multistream splitcam on both! And while you are doing that, ePlay might work for you as well.
