New Way to Share Images at Chaturbate: Drag-and-drop in PM

Chaturbate continues to introduce new ways to communicate between viewers and performers. This time with the addition of images inside the internal Private Message or “Chaturbate PM” system.

Members often want to show something visual to their favorite performers. That is often a picture of themselves, whether a face-shot or a dick-pic or sometimes just something else personal.

Previously there was no easy way to do that. Oh, you could upload an image to your profile and ask them to view it. Or put in on imgur and guide them to the address. A Cam2Cam session would let you send something live, but that’s not quite the same thing.

Now there is a better way, and Chaturbate have made it a very simple drag-and-drop.

All you have to do is open the PM window and then drag a photograph file from your computer onto the PM chat window. That could be a photograph you downloaded from a camera and is on your C: drive. Or it could be something you downloaded from a website, Facebook, Twitter or a stock image site.

The new feature comes with a photo icon in the send area.

When you drag an image into the window it loads, but doesn’t actually send until you hit the send button.

While that isn’t uncommon for a text chat window to behave like that it can also be confusing. You can see the image there, it looks like it is in the chat, but it hasn’t “actually gone out yet”.

Photos that have been sent don’t seem to be saved anywhere so make sure to grab them with a Right-click, Save-as… before you close the chat window.

Conversely, if you accidentally send a wrong image you can hit the image icon, then the cross to delete it.

At Stripchat sending and receiving images is a paid feature, at least the Stripchat models are allowed to set a price for image sharing.

Not so at Chaturbate where the feature is free, in both directions, though CB suggest that Broadcasters could charge to open images.

When someone sends you an image it is clear from the sender’s side that an “unopened image” is just that, unopened. The receiver sees only a very blurred tiny thumbnail until they deliberately click on it to open it.

When the “Unopened” word disappears, the sender knows it has been seen, or least opened on the receiver’s screen.

The whole process of sending an image, knowing it has gone through, then knowing the other person has viewed it, is all very clear.

There are a few problems though.

Firstly the fact that there is no way to turn it off. Some people may not want to receive images, and it looks as though they don’t have many options. The receiver could just not open a received image, but the sender knows that and might be offended.

The second problem is that so far it doesn’t work on mobile. Using a phone the image button is entirely missing and of course there is no way to drag-and-drop an image on a phone. You can view the images in chat though.

Have you tried sending cute kitten images to your fav cam girl? I bet she would like that, at least the first few times!
