Chaturbate adds Transfemme, Transmasc, and Non-Binary as Gender categories but it doesn’t work the way you expect

On Twitter, Chaturbate announced that they are supporting more gender categories as sub-categories of the Trans option.

Now you can select to describe yourself as

• A Woman
• A Man
• A Couple
• A Trans – Transfemme
• A Trans – Transmasc
• A Trans – Non-Binary

The last three are the new choices, where it used to only have “A Trans” as an option.

I have no doubt this is done with the best of intentions yet it still lacks something. While it works well enough for me and I’m sure lots of people, the folks out there for who simple male/female/trans didn’t work are still going to have to find their “best fit” rather than what they actually feel about themselves.

The bigger problem is that it doesn’t include any way to find people by these attributes. When it comes to finding a favorite cam person I’m still stuck with the basic options and I can’t even if I look in the Trans section there isn’t anything to see.

If you are a fan of trans cam performers then this doesn’t help.

Currently, cam performers at Chaturbate in these categories are not using tags in their rooms with these words, but maybe they will in the future, for now they can just update their bio using these new options.

Waiting to see a more advanced search at Chaturbate that would let me find and filter the many cam rooms by things like this.

Meanwhile, CameraPrive, the massive Brazilian cam site, has a similar concept with categories for “trans girl” and “trans guy” and while everybody is using them correctly at least they are top-level tabs on the site.
