Well it is now well past the Nov 2025 deadline and nothing has changed. Stripchat still works fine for me!
— Original news below
The European Union has rules about privacy and “transparency” for large websites, and they have recently noticed that porn sites, and cam sites, can be “large”.
Wow, the Bureau-cats in Brussels have finally realized what the internet is for; porn!
The EU Commission has asked Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos to provide information under the Digital Services Act (DSA) because they have not yet provided enough information about their “transparency”, moderating, and advertising.
But why Stripchat?
To me this is a surprise given that Stripchat is a relatively smaller player compared to the giants like Pornhub and XVideos. And it isn’t even the largest cam site out there, at least not based on number of girls or number of viewers.
By both those measures Chaturbate is a larger site, yet it doesn’t seem to be mentioned here. Is that because EU commissioners prefer European girls and so Stripchat is the one they know about?
Or is there something specific about Stripchat’s operations that has caught the EU’s attention?
Maybe the other cam sites that operate in Europe have already complied with the DSA’s requirements, making Stripchat stand out for not doing so.
I don’t really know what “transparency” means here. The only transparent I use is transparent blouses when I want guys to look at my tits! I’m sure that isn’t what they mean.
To a government bureaucrat, what is “transparency”? You tell me!
Read the EU official statement about it:
And what Stripchat previously reported, but apparently wasn’t good enough:
https://support.stripchat.com/hc/en-us/articles/26200876452753-DSA-TRANSPARENCY-REPORT-JUNE-2024
The EU hasn’t said what was wrong with the previous report but I suppose they have not been clear enough, perhaps being too vague or not having the detail that the EU is looking for.
Given that they specifically want details on content moderation, asking about court orders and internal complaint handling as well as automation, they presumably want to make sure these are all up to EU standards whatever those are.
How many people are working on moderation, how are they qualified, can they even speak the various languages that are used on the sites. You can see how there is a lot of detail there that is required.
“The EU gets serious” I guess is the headline here.
Will Stripchat be able to comply? I think they will have to so, lets see how that goes! They have a Nov deadline so they had better get working!
Are you a European customer of Stripchat? Either as a model or a viewer? Let me know in the comments if you are worried that the EU might shut them off!
