Capitalism comes to BongaCams: Models Set Prices of Private Shows: A new Market Price for Cam Girls

Bongacams has always set the prices for private chats using their own logic about what is the “best prices”. That stops models from setting their own prices and therefore eliminates competition and natural market forces setting the cost of cam girl private shows at Bonga.

This is a type of artificial price control and in any economic situation it can lead to an inefficient set of prices that prevent maximizing benefits, including profits.

At the same time, price controls can prevent a race-to-the-bottom where providers just all try to be cheaper in order to get market share, and income for everybody collapses until people stop wanting to do it. Then there isn’t any supply anymore.

Bongacams have just announced a trial of their version of free-market pricing for Private chats.

“You can set your own prices for private and voyeur chats,” they say before going on to note that “the feature is in the testing phase, so the prices you set will be displayed only for half of the users”.

That is a typical A/B split-test as done by marketing departments to see which type of promotion works best. But in this case, it may be confusing to get a full picture as viewers may realize that some people get the same private chat cheaper than others, which can lead to consumer dissatisfaction.

Viewers not in the test half, and models who are charging the standard rates and don’t adjust their prices, will charge as they have in the past

• private chat – 60 tokens per minute
• full private chat – 90 tokens per minute
• group chat – 30 tokens per minute
• voyeur chat – 15 tokens per minute

Will the introduction of adjustable pricing lead to a lower cost for private shows at Bongacams? Or conversely, will it attract higher ranking models who will be willing to work at Bonga only if they can set their own higher prices?
