What does an X matter?
There is some unusual news today from the world of Intellectual property. The item in the news is about XLoveCam and the recent drama that wrapped up with a rather surprising legal twist.
What happened? The company that operates XLoveCam tried to take over the domain lovecam.com, claiming it infringed on their European trademark.
Remember that XLoveCam is a European cam site.
The complaint didn’t come out the way they wanted though. The case went up to a World Intellectual Property Organization panel of experts.
Now the Lovecam.com site is Streamate. I’m not sure if a white label or as suggested by the case it might be owned directly by the company.
The panel found against XLoveCam, and in a plot twist, they found that they were unfairly trying to grab the lovecam.com!
The lovecam.com domain has been showing Streamate girls since 2013, long after XLoveCam got its trademark. The defense had a simple argument—“love cam” is just a generic term like saying “pizza shop” in the food world, and you can’t just claim all pizzas for yourself, can you?
The result here is that X does make a difference. XLoveCam is distinct basically because it adds that little ‘X’ to the “love cam” experience.
Putting X makes it not just about love, but about seX as well.
That means XloveCam and LoveCam are not the same thing.
