RoyalCamsAug 31: Seems to have died Just found RoyalCams.Net which apparently went live in late 2005 --
seems to be a direct clone of CamContacts,
probably ex-camcontacts fans/hosts/viewers involved? I noticed a
fingernail host which I recall was something hot on CamContacts as well. It's so similar at first I thought it was just a own-branding or 'skin' of CC, but no, it is really a separate site and company -- apparently based in New Zealand from the address. It's the same basic deal -- hosts get 50%, prices are quite low and there are plenty of shows to be had under $1 a minute. As a viewer you can sign up without a credit card, but can't do anything except text chat -- not even enter free video rooms (if and when they exist, I didn't see any yet). Payments to Royalcams by credit card, processed through the Philippines for some reason, but "charges will appear on statements as Lucas Continental Limited" they say. You can add between $10 and $300 dollars to your account at once -- no fuss about "tokens" it's just cash you are adding which then get to spend in per minute fees. The lowest I saw was $0.70/minute and the highest was $1.30 so this is in the same low price range as CamContacts. Something a little different for hosts is a small bonus just for being online, even without any customers. RoyalCam is paying twenty cents per hour for every online chat host. So you can earn extra cash even if you do not have a paying viewer. Hosts can also record a video and leave it online for people to play back. There is a real 'friends' category for those hosts who are really there for the chatting, not the sex shows too. I chatted with a girl with a name almost the same as mine and she explained to everybody who asked in the room quite clearly that she did not strip and didn't think too highly of those who did. Ok well, good luck to her but that's not the common case on the site I think. The majority of hosts were in "Shy Girls" which seems to mean they do strip and show, but not as fast as those in the "Naught Girls" section. What is disappointing is a low number of hosts online at RoyalCams, at around 10 at the time I'm watching this is not enough for the site to take off. At the same time as these mostly seem to be real independents -- I see just two studio backdrops -- then I suppose it's not unexpected. Hopefully things will develop for them soon.
