NeonCamsFor a site that has just launched NeonCams is doing well indeed. That probably reflects a lot of pre-launch preparation. Normally I don't review just-launched sites as most of them also just-die within a month or two, but this one seems to have a better chance than most. This review done mid April 2008 which is just 6 weeks after their March launch. First of all the clue they are doing well is that as I write there are 19 jhosts online out of around 400+ registered. That might not seem much compared to a few hundred online at camcontacts etc but there are sites I won't name which have been online and promoting heavily for years and only have 3 or 4 cams going at a time.
You can either use the check boxes to filter to be that specific, or you can see the number of cams online in a particular category and go into just that one. e.g. Lesbians (1) / (7) Now interestingly this site has plenty of white hosts, but very few from other regions -- less than 10% are Asian and while Latin chathosts are a bit better represented according the figures I didn't catch any online when I looked. This white, in fact European, slant probably reflects the European origin of the site -- servers in Hungary and registered address in Cyprus. So how about the actual video chat? Well NeonCam is doing pretty good in that area as well, I doubt it is entirely custom written but it does have all the good features you'd expect. Audio, cam2cam, two levels of zoom and so on.
All these features are in freechat, even for guests. Of course the hosts can kick troublesome ones but generally it seemed a quiet chat experience. If you want unlimited free chat at NeonCams you will have to register though, guest chat times out after a while. No credit card is needed to register, you only need a valid email address and a password and you get unlimited free chat, favorite functions and so on. Click the activation link in the email they send you, it arrived for me within seconds, and you are on your way. Private shows are variably priced but I saw hosts mostly at 2.99/minute or similar. The few I chatted with were pleasant but obviously not native English speakers so it was quite stilted at times. All the hosts I saw were studio models, probably from more than one studio based on the backdrops. One not so good part was that I could not easily see the prices of the hosts -- the thumbnail gallery and the detail gallery view both didn't show that -- I either had to ask the model directly or click the button to start a show which would then show me the price such as "PURE79's price: 1.99 credits/min". So on to buying credits and the only option is credit card, and one of three packages -- 29.99, 49.99 or 69.99 -- strangely they say "USD or EUR" as though these are the same! Seeing as one Euro is worth $1.50 US that means European customers are paying 50% more for the same credits -- I hope I'm misunderstanding that and someone can clarify for me (please post in the forum). For hosts the pay is 35% and they have been running several promotions to attract more - such as a "$100 for 100 hours online in free chat" and a 40% payout rate for April.
