One of our performers has researched this topic, and we would love to share it with all others who may be interested..

There was a scientific study done that showed that women that used oil based lubes had fewer infections than women that used water based lubes and I’ll show you why.

Water based lubes are more harmful for your health because the body absorbs them and tends to become drier and as time goes on you need to apply more and more. This isn’t always true every time but it does happen. After sex the lube that is left over will be absorbed instead of coming out naturally. The oil based lubes will moisturize your skin and flow out naturally with your own body fluids. Now let’s take a look at some of the ingredients in the lubes.

Here’s regular Astroglide
Glycerin
Propylene Glycol
Polyquaternium 15
Methylparaben
Propylparaben

Now let’s break these chemicals down and see what they do.

Glycerin is used to make soaps and shampoos and can be irritating to the skin and can cause allergic reactions. Glycerin is also a sugar alcohol and yeast thrive in sugar so it makes sense that glycerin would cause yeast infections. Glycerin is also used as a solvent and a plasticizer and is said to dry the skin from the inside out by pulling moisture from the skin.

Propylene Glycol - A colourless, volatile, flammable liquid produced by fermentation of yeast and carbohydrates. Alcohol is frequently used as a solvent. As an ingredient in ingestible products, alcohol may cause body tissues to be more vulnerable to carcinogens

Polyquaternium 15 – In microbiology I was taught that soaps use what are known as “quats” notice poly-quat and that is what causes the soap to foam. So take a water based lube and put some on your hands and rub them together and see if it foams up and it will. What the purpose of this is, I do not know but we all know that putting soap inside the vagina is never good so that’s food for thought. It is a preservative that works by producing formaldehyde. Not all “quats” are the same and only 15 works this way.

Methylparaben – Used as a preservative in foods, beverages, cosmetics. Causes Itching, swelling, redness, or rash on skin; with minimal to mild eye irritation and it readily and completely absorbed through the skin.

Propylparaben – I didn’t find much information on this one but I did find one site that says it’s a problem when it’s mixed with other parabens such as methylparaben. It’s also a preservative and can cause some skin irritation.

Now let’s look at the Astroglide Naturals, it’s supposed to be safer

Xylitol
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
Potassium Ascorbyl Tocopheryl Phosphate
Pectin
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract
Hydroxyethylcellulose
Methylparaben

Now a closer look…

Xylitol – I wasn’t able to find what xylitol might do inside the vagina and I’m guessing that there hasn’t been much research on this but xylitol is a sugar substitute and it’s also used in some gums and toothpastes as an antibacterial agent. I’m guessing that in the lube it’s used for flavor and antibacterial but I’m wondering if this isn’t actually a bad idea. Taking antibiotics throws our bacterial balance off causing us to get yeast infections so why should this be any different. Just a thought.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice – It seems that aloe is a cure all for almost anything so I can’t find anything negative to say about this about this one.

Potassium Ascorbyl Tocopheryl Phosphate – Basically Vitamin E with some binding agents

Pectin – Basically makes things a little bit jelly like and I can’t find anything negative about it.

Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract – This is listed as a 100% safe ingredient but there is always a chance of allergic reaction to plants.

Hydroxyethylcellulose - Cellulose is a naturally occurring component found in the cell walls of plants. Minimal skin irritation was reported when tested at concentrations of 100% but other than that, this product was deemed completely safe for human use.

Methylparaben – Then of course there this from the first product above. Used as a preservative in foods, beverages, cosmetics. Causes Itching, swelling, redness, or rash on skin; with minimal to mild eye irritation and it readily and completely absorbed through the skin.

The Firefly Organics is an oil based lube that is 100% organic
Is safe for use with latex, silicone, and rubber toys

NOTE: NOT ALL OIL BASED LUBES ARE SAFE FOR USE WITH LATEX, SILICONE OR RUBBER

Please read the back of the bottle to make sure before you use it, the back of this bottle clearly states it.

Aloe Leaf Juice
Sunflower Seed Extract
Canola Seed Extract
Sesame Seed Extract
Cocoa Butter
Beeswax
Shea Butter
Tocopherol – Vitamin E

Also a silicone based Lube is excellent choice for health reasons but it’s not good if you are using silicone toys so it’s a big trade off. I myself prefer the silicone lube over all of the others but I also prefer the silicone toys because they are the safest of all so my sacrifice is to use another form of lube instead. So if you are using silicone toys DO NOT use a silicone lube. Below are some links that talk about the health of oil based over water based lubes. Hope this information helps.

Use coconut oil. It feels great and is anti candida too.

Excellent post, thanks! I have made it a Sticky post.

I suspect that most or all of the ingredients in commercial lubs are fine for occasional use. But for those people using them for many hours every day it may be different, that is probably a much higher "dose" than the manufacturers intended!

Regretfully, I sometimes view camhosts only to see them using baby oil with the toys which will cause the toys to melt and the toxidity to be put inside their bodies and their mouths.... Makes you really want to warn them! Have any of you had toys even melt a bit if they were near each other in a wooden drawer? Well oils can heat them and cause melting too. Makes the toys become carcinogenic!!! More than likely is why some of the manufacturers get out lawsuits by calling adult toys a "novelty"...Many made in China out of who knows what....

We have to be so careful being a cam model of what we put in our bodies. it took many trys and many reactions to learn what lubes are ok for me to use.

silicon lube and silicon toys I learned the hardway they do not mix they caused my skin to burn and break out in hives. I ended up going to the hospital to have them cure it. wasn't pleasant explaining what happened.

Elbow grease which is a lube I love to use for many reasons. it comes in 2 forms of liquid, package. open cap bottle or pump. and its water base and last long. it does not react to my skin or melt my toys.

I use most medical grade silicon rechargeable toys and glass toys. they are a bit more expensive but my health is more important then getting a lower priced sex toy and lube.
