Webcam turnkey solutions - opinions?

Hi,

I am looking into setting up an adult webcam chat site and was wondering if anyone has any experience with, or opinions on, any of the commercially available turnkey solutions.

In particular I am looking at Modenacam and videogirls

If anyone has any thoughts/opinions on what the best ready-made solution might be then I'd be most grateful. PHP/MySQL/ASP/Flash etc is not an issue on our end, we're just looking at these premade packages as a quicker means of setting the site up... additional coding etc is not an issue for us though as it'd all be done in-house.

I may also looking for models if anyone is interested, although it depends how many spots we'll initially have available... probably a good few I'd imagine and we'd be looking at pretty decent rates.

Interesting to see new products coming out, I've not seen these before which means I'm not keeping up!

With these turnkey solutions though I'm concerned about how much control you get. Say for example in a year you decide you don't like their system and want to move to another, can you do that easily or is it all on their database which you have only limited access to?

I fired off a few questions to the Modenacam people and, while they offer their own hosting, you can host things wherever you like. Obviously that is going to be preferable.

I did get a look at the website php code (not the FMS code) and tbh it's a complete mess. They've got a different php file for each page and no template functions/classes, so even making simple changes is going to require lots of repetition. Doesn't look like it'd be too complicated to rip most of their stuff out and replace it with a simple template constructor... but then all their stuff is still a horrid mish-mash of table tags that looks like the worst of Dreamweaver. Not looking forward to having to recode everything just to get some half-decent modern css based output.

Still, tbh I may just go the affil route with someplace like webcams.com since I'm worrying about struggling to get models and traffic.

We want to get into producing our own content ideally though... it's just tough starting I guess

If the code is bad then what else is bad that may not be so easily apparent?!

I highly recommend the affiliate route, maybe then whitelabel and so on. You need to learn that part first I believe to make the rest of it work later if/when you go with your own site and hosts.
