After many years of only working on large cam sites I've set up a site for myself. I am testing the waters on becoming independent. I would love some advice from independent hosts and to hear about your experiences!
Promotion has been my biggest hurdle, just getting my name out there. Any suggestions on places for independent cam hosts to list?
I tried the list on this site, but nearly all of them are either shut down or are designed to not really be a listing service, but a billing platform. I would start one myself but am not sure how to go about it.
Any independent cam hosts want to network with me?  I may set up a "friends page" of links on my site where we can trade traffic. |

We think you should check out MyFreeCams.com.
1) We are happy to work with individual independent models.
2) Promotion is not an issue because we have more than enough traffic to get thousands of people in your room the moment you go online.
3) We see that you have your own personal website, and unlike other webcam sites, you are completely allowed to promote it on our site.

She is trying to make her own website not join another large site myfreecams.com
Desperate much. it is very possible to run your own website I am in the process of rebuilding your own website the hardest thing would be getting traffic.
Do you plan on having a members area , what about upgrading your web design if that is your website listed. if you have a members area usually using ccbill you can promote your affiliate program on adult webmaster boards.
Those are some suggestions. you might have to spend money on advertising as well just keep that in mind. |

I would suggest getting your regular members on your new site first. Think about alternate payment methods, western union, paypal, etc. Why?
Once you invest in getting traffic (place some banners on websites, buy visitors from traffic sites) you won't be able to avoid credit-card fraud with the regular processors. The adult processors will cut you off with 12-20% of your revenue for processing your transactions, and if you get a chargeback, that means the whole transaction will be refunded and you will be fined around $20-25 (depends on the processors chargeback rate at Visa or MasterCard etc). |

| Paypal can not be used for any adult transaction. Not only will they cancel your account and keep all your funds, they may also fine you $500 for each transaction that violates their policy. |

| I use paypal for my transactions and have no problems. I also know many other models that use it too. It is almost impossible for them to find out what the transaction is for... |

well the thing with that is the customer can report you. I have seen many girls tell a "new customer" yes I accept paypal and then have been reported to paypal. I think doing it with regular customers is fine because you know them a little more. But with new clients I wouldnt suggest it. They also have paypal associates claiming to be customers that want a cam show out there and will bust you on the spot. So another thing to think about when taking paypal for adult transactions when it's clearly not allowed. My view is why would you trust a camgirl who takes illegal payments through paypal? Not very busy savy. Along with the $5000 fine if your caught, plus the seize of you paypal funds and you will never ben able to open another pp account ever because they will block you ip. Just a thought. To me it's not worth it. There are many fast payment processors that work like paypal online but are specifically for adults. Such as Epassporte. Your customers can pay you through there and it's legal. |

Actually it's quite easy for them to find out, several ways. A customer doesn't even have to report you. Just one comment on the payment such as "thanks for the hot show" will get your account cancelled and all funds forfeited and could even get your funds in your bank account partially frozen until they collect everything you did that was a disallowed transaction.
It's happened to both customers and models and continues to happen. |

Thanks for the replies.
I am probably giving up on it. I'm finding it a much better use of my time to just work for a few of the bigger sites.
I mostly get PMs and emails from guys who don't have credit cards or try to meet me and are not really interested in a cam show. Just been a massive waste of time and effort. |
