Do Independent Chat Hosts REALLY Make Serious Money??

Okay, let's get real here:

Are there ANY chat hosts who has made a lot of money--let's say at least $50,000.00 a year, from owning their own website only? Not working at any other website.

I think the only hosts making a lot of money as an independent are hosts who are porn stars and now having their own sites. It seems to me, you have to be already established and known in the adult industry to REALLY have a successful adult website.

Honestly the girls I know who make "serious money" from having their own site do a LOT of live promotions using network sites + serious in affiliate game + time to build a following + consistent hard work. So IMO... NO you can't make that kind of money without advertising on other sites of some sort. (talking about girls w/o previous career as porn star OR w/o a HUGE company backing them).

IMO a lot of sites want to promise you a zillion dollars when while YES its possible... this is 2009 not 2005... money doesn't just fall off the tree. Economy has effected everyone's spending habits period.

I remember around 1997 i was just into my first year on the net
I use to look at cam girls a lot back then, pornication.com for example

You don't have to be independent host in order to make much money at all! Actually 50 K is not really a big money. Ok, I don't make that because I'm a nonadult host, but I know a girl who does adult, and she makes 10.000-15.000 USD per month.(that's roughly 120-180 K per year) She has never been a porn star, never advertized herself, no affiliate, nothing. She just looks great and guys jump in her vid at a high price per min.. I know she's making this money, because I handled her earnings in the past.

If she spoke English, she could probably make yearly 100K only from the first 4 sites and dealing with 4 sites is not that difficult.

There might be several reasons why you didn't hear about "retired" hosts living from their savings and traveling around the world. I worked with many models and I read many chathost forum and what I see is that majority of the girls are not really educated, don't think about the future, they just want 600 usd sunglasses, expensive cars, lingeries, travels,makeup etc and they spend their money as if there wasn't tomorrow. Even most people in the normal world can't manage their investment well, so what do you expect from this type of girls?? There are successful hosts who did well, invested well, but they didn't tell you )) It's not common, but there, are trust me

It seems a lot of responses in this thread didn't even understand the original question. It's not about being a chathost working through myfreecams or CamContacts or any of the other sites mentioned!

An independent chat host would get their own customers and their own traffic and process credit cards themselves, not work through another site.

I've tried it and I find that when dealing with chargebacks, payment processors it really ends up being about the same as what I make working through one of the major cam sites and with a LOT more headaches.

I'm still keeping my site up at least for now because I have a few favorite customers I still like to perform for, however unless you have a HUGE following it's not going to be a full time gig for you. Also I think it's completely unethical to do what some do, stealing traffic from sites where they work and using their own processors. It'll eventually catch up with you! Your customers should only be those customers you have gotten for yourself, not stolen from someone else's hard work and investment.
