Two have told me in the past that $500 is a good month for them.
Personally, I think that's dreadful. They should be doing a lot better.
But, $500 does go a lot farther there than in the USA.
But still, they are leaving hundreds of dollars on the table, each month, imo.

Why do you say "Romanian chathosts" -- do you think it would be more or less than from other countries?
I thought one of the great things about the internet is that bassically everybody is playing in the same space. So any earnings would be similiar regardless of where you are -- and be based on your skills (and looks).

Why do you say "Romanian chathosts" -- do you think it would be more or less than from other countries?

Your point is valid ( and I know you are asking "Daniel", not "Dan" ) but from a studio's perspective local competition for the same talent pool makes the question valid. A studio in a country where a camhost can survivor on $500 a month can pay a smaller percentage than a studio in the US, for example, where the cost of living is so drastically different.

Do you see studios staying around? I've always thought they will go away either due to economics, or girls wising up, or possibly legislation.
Also the fact that customers always like the feel of talking to a private individual who's doing webcam because it is their thing -- not someone doing a "shift".
Seems too impersonal, when of course personal appeal is what webcam chat is all about.

I don't see them "going away" as much as becoming close to irrelevant.
In the pre-broadband days of the Internet, their value added was clear. FASTER connection (i.e. more bandwidth) than what a home could be served. That's becoming true for a lot fewer regions, though.
My question to all of them is, "Now what?" So far, not a single good answer. I get the impression the ones in the business are just "happy to be there" copying what many other have done before them, versus thinking about improving.
The very definition of a "mature" (aka stagnant) industry, surviving on a small fraction of the business they could have if they reinvented themselves with some new ideas ( or at least MY ONE new idea  ).
The next step after them is the "cam site". It's the natural evolution of things. A free market economy destroys inefficiencies and punishes those who rely on them. Try telling that to a "cam site" owner who thinks they are on top of the world making their fortunes now.
Now, sure. Tomorrow?

Seems like at least one of the camhosts participating in the camhost only forum might be doing the 50-60 cent/minute price point.

I know romanian girls that don't work for less then 3 $ per minute, and they do about 2000 $.. Pretty good, i think. |

| Yeah it just seems a bit nonsensical I mean I tried CamContacts and one of the girls doing 50 something cents a minute and it's exzactly the same as the ones doing $3 a minute (full service and everything and good quality, very pretty). And there seems to be a few dozen doing it under $1 a minute but still a lot doing it for $2 or more (and expensive sites still make profits) so it just doesn't make sense, would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me thanks. |

I'm not sure I agree with your premise that "expensive sites make profits." Certainly not all.
Lots of revenue doesn't always equal any profits.
Ask Enron and MCI and the old McCaw Cellular.
Of course the non-fraud example is the most interesting.
Craig McCaw (son of multimillionare cable TV pioneer)
started and ran McCaw cellular for 14 years without
having a single profitable quarter. He sold it to AT&T
for about $4 billion dollars (US) and took home about
$2 billion for himself.
He had deep pockets funding the company.
Of course the dynamics of the pay-per-minute webcam
industry are drastically different than cellular.

I read again the first messege.. I have to correct the "Romania ( and otehr USSR countries)" .Romania is not an USSR country and never been. Just MOLDOVA ( a part of the old Romania) is now of Russia  .. Just had to mention.

That is a good number.
That means if only 100 people (out of the thousands who see them each year) paid them $20 per month, they would double their revenue in exchange for just a few hours more work per month.
And it would be revenue they controlled, not split with website owner and/or affiliate of the website owner and/or studio boss.
Not to mention control of the price point. Maybe $50 per month is the right number to maximize profit. Maybe over time, it would build to an audience of 1000 fans paying $10 per month.
