Hi All,
I want to talk about the enigma of fixed hourly pay for being online. On the face of it this seems like a great idea, but it doesn't work. You see money is the worlds best motivator and the guarantee of money a bit of a de-motivator. Web cam performers are sales people, and the best sales people are commissioned, not salaried.
We have experimented with fixed pay in our studio in the past, and found that :
a. We attracted the wrong kind of performer, the ones that ignore their online clients.
b. Since we had to play with pay structure to afford fixed pay, we began to loose the good ones who rightly felt they were supporting the bad ones. The best performers make a lot more money with commissioned remuneration. And at the end of the day I would rather have ten good performers rather than 50 lazy asses sitting there to collect a cheque.
The only site which on the face if it offers fixed pay for being online is girltime, this is the demo site for firecracker video. Great site, with a good following. But read their rules for the pay guarantee - even they have been bitten by the lazy ass opportunistic performers.
Most performers who come to this forum are pro's, they know what it takes to get a pay check. And likewise since they know their income potential would not settle for the "adjustment" required to work the hourly wage system. The one that want the pay guarantee want a free ride. Sit online for 5 hours reading a book - walk away with $50 . Not gonna happen!! Sites that offer it will go bankrupt pretty soon or have bad intentions from day one. When looking at these kind of offers, think to see if they are economically viable (like girltime's rules which are good solid rules to protect the site from freeloaders) and if not - don't fall for it, 'cos you won't get paid.
BTW, yesterday our best performer walked away with $120 for three hours work. Do you think she cares about the pay guarantee! |

hmmm... I don't disagree about reward being the best motivator ( and to some money is a great reward ).
But the idea that all fixed pay systems can't work as you seem to imply with "it doesn't work" based on your experience, seems a bit of an exaggeration.
Perhaps you aren't familiar with the long-term, ellimination, so-called "Reality TV" game shows, such as Survivor. The audience
can "vote off" ( i.e. fire ) hosts who don't draw just by their lack of participation - considering both free and paid time. Takes a little more creativity and a little more programming, but it is a natural evolution of what's going on now, imo.
Hosts without the looks, personality and/or movement (see my other recent post) to keep an audience and convert them, get bad ratings and eventually get fired. A smart website would measure repeat customers into the ratings formula, since that's a huge factor for success of the site itself (i.e. not just count repeat visitors - that's obvious).
Having said all of that, a compensation plan that combined fixed and variable pay that stepped up to the plate (i.e. showed some responsibility) with host TRAINING could do very well, in return on investment, compared to even the largest players with their volume strategy.
Or, every little website can keep doing what every other little website is doing (mimicing the big sites when possible) and hope they grow their customer base in a very crowded marketplace with a product and service that has very little differentiation.
Want to know why most (non-cam) membership websites lose as much as 50% of their members every month... they offer the same features as every other site, just with a different woman/couple/man. still pics, video, diary, ( 2 stories and 4 audios from 3 years ago). Very little unique from site to site. That's one reason the "networks" of sites do better than the individual sites. "Pay once, get me and my 17 friends for one price." Revenue sharing and increasing the variety keeps people for a few extra months before they bailout and become a member at the next site ... with still pics, video, diary, old stories and audio....
