Here is something maybe most don't or do know....
All the root servers (13 to be exact)... are owned by the United States Department of Commerce, yes the USA Controls the World Wide Web.
Why don’t they have root servers in other countries? In theory countries would have to link their root servers to other countries....If they didn't like a country...well guess who is not going to have access there...second...slower net...more hops.
Theory:
You will see spiders...similar to how search engines spider your sites to check for a 2257 link on your site.
Why did I tell you all this?
No matter what country you are from it boils down to one thing... the US Government controls the World Wide Web...start (if you haven’t already) preparing your sites for compliance even if you are in Europe or whatever country because its going to hit you as well eventually... 85% of money comes from the USA in sales, and having only out of country customers isn’t going to do you justice... |

Well i think you need to revise your RN knowledge base. From all 13 root name servers 10 root nameservers are owned and operated by USA based corporations or state organizations as it follows:
A.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by VeriSign Naming and Directory Services in Dulles VA
B.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Information Sciences Institute in Marina del Rey CA
C.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Cogent Communications in Herndon VA, LA, NY and Chicago
D.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by University of Maryland in College Park MD
E.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View CA
F.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Internet Systems Consortium in Ottawa; Palo Alto; San Jose CA; New York City; San Francisco; Madrid; Hong Kong; Los Angeles; Rome; Auckland; Sao Paulo; Beijing; Seoul; Moscow; Taipei; Dubai; Paris; Singapore; Brisbane; Toronto; Monterrey; Lisbon; Johannesburg; Tel Aviv; Jakarta; Munich; Osaka; Prague; Amsterdam; Barcelona.
G.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by U.S. DOD Network Information Center in Vienna VA
H.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by U.S. Army Research Lab in Aberdeen MD
J.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by VeriSign Naming and Directory Services in Dulles VA (4 locations); Mountain View CA; Seattle WA; Atlanta GA; Los Angeles CA; Miami FL; Sunnyvale CA; Amsterdam; Stockholm; London; Tokyo; Seoul; Singapore
L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers in Los Angeles
So there are more 3 root name servers not operated by an US based entity either private company or state organisation as it follows:
I.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Autonomica/NORDUnet in Stockholm; Helsinki; Milan; London; Geneva; Amsterdam; Oslo; Bangkok; Hong Kong;
Brussels; Frankfurt; Ankara; Bucharest; Chicago; Washington DC; Tokyo; Kuala Lumpur; Palo Alto; Jakarta; Wellington; Johannesburg; Perth; San Francisco; New York; Singapore; Miami; Ashburn (US)
K.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by Reseaux IP Europeens - Network Coordination Center in London (UK); Amsterdam (NL); Frankfurt (DE); Athens (GR);
Doha (QA); Milan (IT); Reykjavik (IS); Helsinki (FI); Geneva (CH); Poznan (PL);
Budapest (HU); Abu Dhabi (AE); Tokyo (JP)
and
M.ROOT-SERVERS.NET = owned and operated by WIDE Project in Tokyo; Seoul (KR); Paris (FR)
Due to my job nature as a SSA in a worldwide ISP i have contacts with various persons from various root nameservers. Most of them are private held ones exception from this rule being those administrated by NASA and US Army and EDU ones that are financed by gov. The european root name servers are most of them made by Autonomica/NORDUnet, a Swedish/Dansk coalition non-profit and totally out of any gov implication. All funds for the maintenance of them are private.
All the above description's purpose is solely to demonstrate that USA does not control everything around this world. Maybe they would like that .. but unfortunately there are other countries and interests out there in the world. |
