Hello,
My name is kim, I need a lil advice please. I am having a camsite developed and it is going to be in java. I'm having it put on a dedicated server-linux-it comes with 3000G bandwidth a month. Ok, my question is if I didnt have free chat Im sure that 3000G a month would be enough without going over it RIGHT? lol . But if I did decide to allow free chat would that 3000G still be enough?. Being a girl and new to this I dont know the number's or how much a busy site goes through in bandwith. THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS! Plus just starting out the site would take time to get anywhere near as busy as say LiveJasmin. lol I wish. |

uumm, ok 3000gigs/mth ? wheres this place i want an account....
R u sure its 3000gigs/mth ? and how much you paying for that?
You say the site will be java? Streaming with Java, most times isnt bandwidth intensive.
What exactly are you using for software?
Ask them what speed will the software run at max, per concurrent connection. |

| Well i'm pretty much sure kim is talking about TRAFFIC and not BANDWIDTH. I've seen many companies selling this .. most of them you can pick from webhostingtalk.com (sry for the link i swear it's not aadvert i hate those guys). Anyhow getting back to the subject i consider adult webcam industry (it is quite an industry) should look better before throwing money to the first so called "Hosting company" .. Go there for something bigger .. actually a Cogent resseler can give out 25 Mbits (bandwidth) for $450/mnth. (that would be $18/Mbit a month) with NO TRAFFIC LIMIT. Yes i know i heard Cogent is flamed and sent to hell .. in fact they offer some excellent services.. or i should say their resellers. Take it as an advice or how you want it. If it's your will to spend alot of money then doit. |

It was for general hosting, and it had terms that stated if its a image intensive or bandwidth intensive site it wouldnt fall under the above stated bandwidth but be alotted 200gigs/2mbitsps a month and be billed at $10.00/GB or $150/mbit for any overage incurred.
Lets just say .. READ THE FINE PRINT!
If there is no fine print ASK FOR IT! ..
Kim asked me to check it out...... While back...
Sry i didnt post nothing till now.

Very true, and if they haven't got any fine print then walk away -- because they have not thought it through. Bandwidth costs money. Period.

Just alittle advice...
There's a lot of hosting companies out there (resellers mostly) who will sell the service and have virtually no support if you need it. Just make sure when you do get a host, that there Phone number is listed in plain view. A good rule of thumb is to NEVER use a host that does not provide a support telephone number. You will just be asking for trouble. |
